POSTAGE POLICY

UK Delivery:

Because we ship from so many fulfilment centres and because of the differing values of the products we ship we now only offer one UK delivery service. We will always choose the most efficient way of delivering your order.

UK Delivery charges: £3.50 standard charge per order plus 5% of the order value with an upper limit of £15.00

CIM Bookshop only: We offer CIM students and members an International delivery service - prices will be shown at the point of purchase. A choice of Airmail or Courier will be available.

NB: These prices include the cost of despatching each item in an order separately, for example, if one book is available and another is out of stock or on order. The price will also include signed delivery and insurance for higher value items sent by courier.

Apple Computer orders: These orders often take quite a while to deliver (as specified on the product page) as Apple now make a lot of this product to order and in the Far East. Delivery: There is an additional insurance charge to take account of the high value of these products.

Office Depot stationery orders: These orders will be despatched direct from our partners Office Depot or Commercial Group and are subject to a shipping surcharge of £5.00 which is charged once per order NOT per line. These orders will normally be delivered by a NEXT working day delivery method.

Sports and Fitness orders: These orders will be despatched direct from our partners Reydon Sports or Intersport and are subject to a shipping surcharge of £7.50 which is charged once per order NOT per line. These orders will normally be delivered by a NEXT working day delivery method.

Art Supplies orders: These orders will be despatched direct from our partners Jackson's Art Supplies and are subject to a shipping surcharge of £5.00 which is charged once per order NOT per line. These orders will normally be delivered by a NEXT working day delivery method dependent on value and size.

Bike orders: These orders will be despatched direct from our partners Raleigh, Quella or Mango and are subject to a shipping surcharge of £10.00 which is charged once per order NOT per line. These orders will normally be delivered by a NEXT working day delivery method.

Photography orders: These orders will be despatched direct from our partners Keyphoto and are subject to a shipping surcharge of £10.00 which is charged once per order NOT per line. These orders will normally be delivered as soon as the items are in stock by a NEXT working day delivery method. This supplier can take up to 10 working days to source and deliver the item.

Laptops, Tablets and Digital orders: These orders will be despatched direct from our partners Avinity, Exertis, Peak, Getech or Kondor and are subject to a shipping surcharge of £10.00 which is charged once per order for each supplier NOT per line. These orders will normally be delivered as soon as the items are in stock by a NEXT working day secure delivery method. These suppliers can take up to 10 working days to source and deliver the item dependent on stock availability.

Magazine Subscriptions: Subscriptions prices include the cost of postage to the customer's address for the period of the subscription

Gifts: Some gifts are supplied by our partners GB Eye - and are subject to a shipping surcharge of £4.50 which is charged once per order NOT per line. These orders will normally be delivered as soon as the items are in stock by Royal Mail.

Snacks: Some snack products are supplied by our partners Stop my Craving - and are subject to a shipping surcharge of £1.00 which is charged once per order NOT per line. These orders will normally be delivered as soon as the items are in stock by Royal Mail.

Camping & Outdoor Equipment: These orders will be despatched direct from our partners Paroh and are subject to a shipping surcharge of £8.50 which is charged once per order NOT per line. These orders will normally be delivered by a NEXT working day delivery method. This supplier can take up to 10 working days to source and deliver the item.

Vouchers: As vouchers are classed as cash by courier companies we have to send by an insured method (normally Royal Mail signed-for service) - therefore each order is subject to a £7.50 shipping surcharge.

NB: All items sent by Courier delivery require a signature you will need to ensure someone is at home to sign for the items. You will normally be informed when an item is despatched so can expect next day delivery after this confirmation if despatched by Courier. To be helpful some couriers will attempt to deliver to a neighbour if you are out when delivery is attempted. This is to speed up delivery and prevent the need for multiple delivery attempts or items returned as 'Undelivered'


Delivery Times:

The delivery times below are from the time of despatch NOT the time of ordering

UK - Please allow 1-3 working days for delivery of your order for First Class and Courier delivery

UK - Please allow 3-5 working days for delivery of your order for Second Class delivery

NB: These are only guidelines and although goods are despatched in good faith once they leave our premises we have to rely on delivery services to get the item to you. Royal Mail does not consider a parcel as missing until 14 business days have elapsed.

Not every product shown is in stock and some may even be Out of Print and no longer available. Please check individual item availability before ordering.

Important: Please note that any orders sent out that are returned to us as undelivered for whatever reason (e.g. requiring a signature, recipient not at home or address incorrect) will be returned to stock and refunded. The original postage cost will not be refunded in these cases.)

Please note that any items damaged in transit must be signed-for as such on the courier sheet (if sent via a trackable method) AND notified to us within 24 hours of the parcel being signed for. Please be prepared to provide pictures of the damage to the item and packaging so we can raise it with the courier. Outside of that time we may be unable to help due to restrictions on claims placed on us by the courier.

If your item was sent using standard delivery (Royal Mail untracked): Please allow 14 business days for your item to arrive from the day we sent you a despatch email. Please note we need to be notified in writing within 30 days of despatch if your item has not arrived with you.

IMPORTANT: If your item was sent using a courier service (tracked and signed): Please notify us of non-delivery within 48 hours from the date of despatch. This is the time-frame we are given by our couriers to raise an investigation.

High value orders will need a signature when they are delivered to a home or work address.

Many of our couriers will make several attempts to deliver a package. If you're not in, they should leave a card to tell you where they have left the parcel (potentially with a neighbour or in the porch) or to provide details of how to contact them to rearrange the delivery.

We will not be liable, in contract, tort (including, without limitation, negligence), pre-contract or other representations (other than fraudulent or negligent misrepresentations) or otherwise out of or in connection with the Conditions for:

  • any economic losses (including without limitation loss of revenues, profits, contracts, business or anticipated savings); or
  • any loss of goodwill or reputation; or
  • any special or indirect losses

suffered or incurred by that party arising out of or in connection with the provisions of any matter under the Conditions.

DELIVERY ADDRESSES:

When ordering please enter your Billing Address (NB: where your credit card is registered) and Delivery Address (where you want your item delivered to).

IMPORTANT: Please note you cannot opt to collect from store unless this option can be selected for that product during the checkout process. If you have entered the address of your local John Smith's store as your delivery address on your order, but do not have written permission from the store that they are willing to accept the parcel on your behalf, John Smith's will also not be held responsible for any parcels missing or rejected if you have entered the address of your University's campus as the delivery address; due to the university mail room/sorting office rejecting parcels that do not belong to registered residents or staff. John Smith's will not be held responsible for any parcels rejected by the store or the University mail room/sorting office.

Students who live in Halls - please ensure you provide Flat and Room number as orders cannot be delivered without a full and accurate delivery address.

All orders are sent to the address you entered on the site when placing the order - John Smith's accept no liability for any parcel lost or delayed because of an incorrect or incomplete address being entered during your order completion. We do not ship abroad in general so do not try to enter a non-UK address but with UK as the country!
